Family, friends, and members of the Murfreesboro community are mourning the tragic loss of Nicholas Daley, 35, who died following a hit-and-run motorcycle crash near the Interstate 24 west and Interstate 59 south split.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle along the interstate.
Investigators say Nicholas Daley was riding his motorcycle when it was struck on the right side by a red or brown sedan. The impact reportedly forced the motorcycle off the roadway and into the left shoulder and median area. Authorities stated that the driver of the sedan continued traveling westbound on I-24 without stopping following the collision.
After being forced off the roadway, Daley’s motorcycle struck the end of a guardrail, causing a devastating crash.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before transporting Daley to a nearby hospital. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash resulted in major traffic delays as several lanes were temporarily shut down while first responders and investigators worked at the scene. Motorists experienced heavy congestion in the surrounding interstate areas during the evening hours.
Authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run incident and are actively working to identify the driver involved. At this time, the suspect vehicle has only been described as a red or brown sedan.
